The senator, who was relegated to an unwinnable seat on the Liberal Party ticket for the NSW Upper House, says that in Parliament “the fish stinks from the head”.
Liberal Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells has launched an extraordinary attack on her own party leader Scott Morrison, telling the Senate he is “not fit to be Prime Minister”.
Liberal Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells has launched an extraordinary attack on Prime Minister Scott Morrison in Parliament, calling him “an autocrat [and] a bully who has no moral compass.”
The senator – who was recently relegated to an unwinnable seat on the New South Wales Liberal Senate list – used a late night speech in the upper house on Tuesday to accuse the Prime Minister of destroying the Liberal Party.
Ms. Fierravanti-Wells told the Senate that Mr. Morrison was “not fit to be prime minister” and said he had “destroyed the Liberal party” with his recent interventions in NSW branch preselections.

She also accused Immigration Minister Alex Hawke – who is Morrison’s lieutenant and a key factional player in NSW – of “corrupt antics” within the Liberal party as she complained about losing her place on the ticket ahead of the May election.
“In my public life, I’ve met some ruthless people. Morrison is at the top of the list, followed closely by Hawke,” she said. “Morrison is not interested in a rules-based order. It’s his way or the highway. An autocrat, a tyrant who has no moral compass.”
Earlier this week, Fierravanti-Wells accused the party of having its own “mean girl” culture and spoke of the “stress associated with factional warfare.”

On Tuesday night, just hours after the federal budget was presented, the senator gave a speech in the upper house in which she said, “There is a very appropriate saying here – the fish stinks from the head.
Fierravanti-Wells said Morrison and Hawke had ruined the NSW Liberal Party by trampling on its constitution.

The senator was highly critical of the recent pre-selection process which was long delayed until the national executive took over the division, allowing Morrison and Hawke to install favoured candidates, including sitting members.
Publicity
She said the process led to “captain’s picks” that party members objected to.
“I’ve received hundreds, if not thousands, of emails expressing their disgust. They have lost faith in the party. They want to leave,” Fierravanti-Wells told the Senate.
“They don’t like or trust Morrison. They continue to despair about our prospects in the next federal election. And they blame Morrison for that. Our members don’t want to contribute to the next election. Morrison is not fit to be Prime Minister. And Hawke is certainly not fit to be a minister.
Morrison was asked for comment. A spokesperson for Hawke declined to comment.
