Sweden’s Malmo The audience’s responses during the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 were divided; Israel’s Eden Golan performance was greeted with jeers, while Spain’s Nebulossa earned wild applause for her hit song, “Zorra.”
Despite being one of the favorites to win, Golan’s song “Hurricane” was met with a cold reception in footage that was circulated online, as Eurovision World’s investigation revealed.
But shortly after Nebulossa took the stage, the energy in the Malmo stadium was tremendous, and the audience went crazy as she performed the hit song “Zorra.”
A “tense” build-up preceded the final because of Israel’s controversial participation—the country is accused of violating human rights during its military war in Gaza.
Actors advocating a boycott and accusing Israel of manipulating the event to boost its image attacked the facilities of public broadcaster Yle in neighboring Finland, where there were protests against Israel’s participation.
After Joost Klein of the Netherlands was disqualified due to an alleged “incident” involving a female member of the production crew that is currently being investigated by the police, worries about possible dropouts also surfaced.
Bambie Thug, the Irish act, was absent from the dress rehearsal because of an unidentified issue that needed “urgent attention from the EBU.”
The competition went on in spite of the controversy, with Croatia’s Baby Lasagna coming out on top as the bookies’ favorite to win, with a 41% chance, ahead of Israel at 22%.
